As you could probably guess, the second part of Tree Night is always a bigger hit with the kids. Decorating the tree is merely a means to an end. I'd be more inclined to scold them for their priorities if I didn't remember being exactly the same way. So, after the tree was successfully dressed, we broke out the mugs of hot chocolate and the ridiculously large assortment of donuts (forgot to snap a pic of those!) that Dave had brought home. And of course we continued the revered Warren-tribe ritual of recounting the memories of each Christmas past. For us this begins with the year Dave and I began our journey together. And the kids get squirmy, only getting excited if they hear their name mentioned (i.e. -- "Henry was the new baby that Christmas!"), but really focusing more on licking the pudding out of their Boston Cream. Ah, the family fun.

Yeah, well I'm in tears. Thank you for the pictures and for carrying on the traditions that have meant so much to all of us...
I think Molly's pose says it best. (seriously). "Aaah. Life is good."
LOL - Henry also looks thrilled to be holding his chocolate taking a picture!
What a gorgeous group and I love that tradition... I'll have add it to the sayings and other things that I have stolen from the Warren clan... like wrong-o-walrus (which Grace always comes back with "What's wrong with the walrus?"
Looks like you guys had so much fun! We still haven't decorated our tree...it look so bare! I like the idea of having donuts after you deocrate! :-)
So do tell...I've heard about this tradition, but never the details, such as how you guys remember all the Christmases past. Is there a journal or something? And what exactly is told of each year? Where you celebrated, or what was going on in the family? Please fill us in! Oh, and were the doughnuts part of the Warren tradition, too, or did the Slaughters add that fun part?
Um, I think Mom kept some sort of a journal, but I don't. And I should, but its me, so I probably won't. We hit the highlights of each year, and then the Christmas that year, too. Growing up, we always had donuts and hot chocolate while we talked. In the SlaughterHouse, the grown-ups often opt for lattes instead, since we have a house barista living here.
lovely tradition. I will have to adapt it somehow for the Breuners-especially the part about food. Someday, just like you, your kids are going to love that you did this for them, even if they are totally thrilled with the listening part now.
